New Book - Colonial Artist S.T. Gill

Copies of my latest book about the life of colonial artist Samuel Thomas Gill have arrived. The book includes over 130 images of Gill's wonderful artwork.

As a history writer I have used Gill's images as a window into the Australian colonies in the nineteenth century. Gill was possibly the most prolific Australian artist ever and as a result left so many images of people, places and events in the colonies. The history of the Australian colonies comes alive through Gill's images.

In the book I have traced Gill's life from his arrival in Adelaide in 1839 until his tragic death on the steps of the Melbourne post office in 1880.

The publisher will be releasing the book on 20 September. It will be available from bookshops, from the publisher (Shawline Publishing Group) and from me (www.douglimbrick.com).

Your discovery of Colonial Artist S.T. Gill makes historical artistry living and breathing as it brings out the aspects of technique and narrative. An additional point that is made by including: Copywriting Services in Toronto is the emphasis on understanding through presentation. An interesting tour that rightly pays a tribute to New Book Colonial Artist S-T Gill.

As a writer, this post stirred memories of a mate who spent months studying S.T. Gill’s sketches to capture colonial life in his own manuscript. He always said voices like this guide emerging authors, much like book publishing companies in Australia shaping stories that honour history.
